About Exon Software Solutions

We are a research-based software company in Sri Lanka. We build software, and we research how software should be built.

What we do

Exon builds software for clients, and we work on our own methods and products. The company is the sister organisation of the Java Institute for Advanced Technology.

We work white-box: every line our team ships is understood and owned by the person who wrote it. We do not accept code that nobody can explain, whether a person or a tool produced it.

Why we care about method

Most software projects fail quietly — not because the code was hard, but because nobody could say later why a decision was made. A change gets made, the reason is lost, and the next person is afraid to touch it.

We solved that problem by treating the specification as a ledger. Every change is recorded at the moment it happens, classified, and can be undone. The result is a project where creativity is safe, because nothing is ever lost.

Ledger-Driven Development (LDD)

LDD stands for Ledger-Driven Development. The idea in one line: the spec is a ledger, not a cage.

  • Ledger, not cage. The specification records what happened; it does not stop you from trying something better.
  • Revertible creativity. You are free to deviate, because every deviation is written down and can be rolled back.
  • Traceability, not restriction. The guardrails exist so that any decision can be traced to the moment it was made.
  • Owner-gated direction changes. Anyone may improve the implementation. Changes that alter what we promise the world need the owner's approval first.

The method is published, and it is citable.

Why the internship runs this way

An intern who learns LDD learns something that survives the internship. The records you keep here are the same records a professional team keeps: a plan, a journal, a set of decisions, and a build spec that moves with the code.

That is why we ask you to write things down from your first week. It is not paperwork. It is the skill.
